We welcomed Spring this week. At my house we celebrated with outdoor games of tag, follow-the-leader, hide-and-seek, and pick-up-sticks. It was really too cold to enjoy the outdoors too long but a quick peek at our iris and hosta buds emerging from the soil told us that it is indeed Spring. HOORAY
It is a wonderful season and I say that, truthfully, about all of Iowa’s four seasons. Spring i
a time of new beginnings and new possibilities. This time of year I am always extra motivated to get my family outdoors more and to move and play more.
So I was happy to hear about the Marshalltown YMCA Healthy Kids Day on April 8. Keisha Lockhart, Health and Wellness Coordinator, gave us the scoop.
*What is Healthy Kids Day? Healthy Kids Day is an event designed to showcase all area agencies that support health and well-being of children in Marshalltown and surrounding areas. There are vendor booths with fun carnival-like games for the kids and important information for parents/caregivers. There will also be inflatables, a petting zoo, and the Iowa State University Insect Zoo. There will be many prizes raffled off that day including, but not limited to: Blank Park Zoo passes, Sky Zone passes, Y Birthday Pool Party, Iowa Cubs tickets, and more!
*What is the goal of the event? The goal of the event is to provide caregivers with pertinent information about services in the Marshalltown area available to keep our kids healthy and happy. It is also a day where families can come enjoy free entertainment and get active together.
*Who would enjoy this event? The target audience of the event is preschool aged children through 3rd grade, and their families.
*Why are healthy kids and families important to the Y’s mission? For over 25 years Healthy Kids Day has celebrated kids’ health and continues to teach healthy habits for kids and families, encourage active play, and inspire a lifetime love of physical activity.
*Name three words to describe the Healthy Kids Day: Active, Entertaining, Educational
*Anything else you want moms and families to know about the event? April 8th 1-3pm in the gym of the Horne Henry Center at the Marshalltown YMCA-YWCA.
