This is exciting! The Marshalltown Mall is starting a local market this summer called “The Marketplace At The Mall”. It will be held every Wednesday from May 17, 2017 through October 11, 2017.
My family and I absolutely love the Farmer’s Market at the Cartwright Pavilion on Saturday mornings. We enjoy chatting it up with the local vendors, listening to the live music, and grabbing our fresh and local produce for the week ahead.
The Marketplace At The Mall is a similar concept to the Saturday market and, according to Susan Schuett-Krough, the mall’s Marketing Coordinator, she hopes the two “will be able to complement each other” as they offer community members the chance to buy local now TWO times each week.
I am thrilled. These local markets contribute to the character of our town and there’s something wholly satisfying about meeting the person who grew your food, talking about the garden or farm where it was grown (“just down the road”) and then making it into a delicious meal for your family. If that doesn’t appeal to you, just getting out to support local friends and neighbors is an effective way to show you care about our community.
The Marshalltown Mall Marketplace is currently seeking vendors who live within 35 miles of Marshalltown who grow, build, make, produce, sew, or craft his or her own product or merchandise. Each vendor will have a 10×10 space to set up shop. It would cost less than $7/night for the entire season. It’s a great deal if you’re looking for a venue to sell your goods to locals.
If you’re interested in receiving a vendor packet, have more questions, or are looking for more information, please contact Susan at 651-752-6200 or reach out on their Facebook page. You can also stop by the Management Office at the Mall weekdays between 8:30 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
I, personally, can’t wait to check it out and support it.
