The IVCCD Orpheum Theater is a community treasure. It’s rich with history and offers so much of what makes Marshalltown great, including multiple venues for cultural events and a coffee shop for gatherings and get-togethers. It also happens to be this month’s GIVEAWAY provider! More on how to enter that below…
We recently conducted a quick Q&A with Tammy Losing, Office Associate at the Orpheum, who shared helpful information about what the Orpheum offers to our community.
Tell us a little bit about the Orpheum and its history.
The Orpheum was the first Radio Keith Orpheum theatre to be built after World War II in 1949. Over the years it has been a 900 seat theatre, a two screen theatre, and now a multi-purpose building. We currently have movie house, Black Box Theater, class room space, and the Forget-Me-Not coffee shop.
What do you do at the Orpheum?
I am the office associate. I do a little of everything. I help with the day to day operations of the building. I manage the movie theater, and assist with events.
How does the Orpheum serve families in the Marshalltown area?
We provide family-friendly movies 1-2 times per month, music at least monthly, and other performing arts. We are also reaching out to support additional programming for kids/schools.
What is one thing people may not know about the Orpheum?
We are more than a movie theater! We have live music and other various performing arts here. The classrooms are available to rent for meetings.
What are some of the upcoming programs/movies that may interest families in the upcoming months?
On March 24-25 we will be having an older kid’s movie, Dinosaur, for $3.00 per person and the concession stand will have specials. In April, we will have a poet here and the U of I’s Dancers and Company. All our ticket info and programs are on our website.
What are you most excited about in the upcoming year?
The Live After 5 series kicks off on June 23 from 5:30-7 pm. We will host a different band in our outside amphitheater every Friday for 10 weeks. Local food vendors will be present selling their goodies. We will have bands such as The Nadas and The Diplomats of Solid Sound, who are well known throughout Iowa and, with other bands from elsewhere – and locals – will provide a great way to spend Friday nights during the summer. Best of all…..the music is FREE!
Thanks, Tammy, for your time, great insight, and for providing this month’s giveaway prize! We are giving away two complementary movie tickets to the Orpheum. To enter, follow the link below and answer three short questions. You have until 11:59 P.M. Sunday, March 26th to enter. We’ll pick a random winner from the entrants and we’ll notify the winner (hopefully you!) by the end of March.
