Hey, I’m Lauren or you might come to know me as JoyfulL. This is my first blog post ever – so please bear with me while I work out the kinks! This is supposed to be a post so you can get to know me, and I have to be honest – I have NO CLUE where to even start. I guess one of the first things you get to learn about me is I don’t really like to talk about myself (seriously, the irony of this being my first post is killing me)! Ask me about my husband, son or puppy and I’ll still be talking for days! But me – AHH – that’s a little harder.
Serious sidenote – I actually had a bit of an identity crisis within the last few years, ironically enough in my first few years of being a parent. It’s so easy to get wrapped up in everything they need (which is EVERYTHING) and to just put yourself on the back burner. Your personal goals, dreams, aspirations, general hygiene – those become second to the dreams you have for your child. After they are out of the house, I can refocus on me again…right?! So how do I even begin to describe me when I don’t even really know who I am?
I can start with the obvious… I’m a wife: my husband and I have been married 4+ years and have been together for over 9 years. I’m a mother: I have a two year old son and a schnoodle puppy. I have two part time jobs: insurance sales and service and dance fitness instructor, which allow me to be home with my son 2 1/2 days a week. I’m super involved with my church, leading a group of volunteers and singing in the worship band. I absolutely love the community of Marshalltown! We moved here in 2012 right after we got married and we can easily call this place home.
I like to cook – my specialty is re-imagining leftovers so we’re never bored. I’m trying to get back into reading and have about 7 books going at this moment in time. I love to host – dinners, parties, casual – i just love inviting people into our home. I always loved to dance and sing, but only within the last few years have started sharing that outside of my home and car. I used to love traveling and hope to start that up again once our son (and any future children) are at a good age to do so. I know a lot about healthy living and try to instill that in my son. Of course, as a parent you may find yourself finishing their mac and cheese and sharing a cupcake for breakfast from time to time, but it’s all about balance, right? I love to laugh and have coined the phrase “snarcastic” to describe my sense of humor.
My life is not exciting by any means but it is relatable and hopefully brings people joy. There is a lot of darkness in this world, and my mission is to be a light for others. My plan is to share with you all some tips for healthy living, some “confessions of a parent” and other odds & ends things that my son and I happen upon throughout Marshalltown. Thank you for sharing in this crazy awesome thing called life with me!
