This past Saturday local firefighters and police officers hosted a community lunch and appreciation event to say “thanks” for the community’s support of the bond issue which approved the new joint police and fire safety facility.
Fire Department Union Local 16 and the Marshalltown Fraternal Order of Police served pork burgers, hamburgers, chips and beverages courtesy of the Pork Producers and the Cattlemen’s Association. The event was held at the site of the new facility at 2nd and Anson streets.
Though not planned this way, it was a timely event given the tragic recent deaths of Des Moines and Urbandale police officers. You could sense that community members wanted to get together to say thanks to law enforcement and fire safety personnel for everything they do and likewise the police officers and firemen wanted to offer their thanks for passing the bond issue.
Free will donations were accepted for Toys for Tots and the Iowa Food Bank.
It was a beautiful, sunny day, and a perfect way to come together as a community to show our strength and support of each other.
