One of my favorite Marshalltown events is in less than a month and I am thrilled to be sharing this post with you about this great event. The Linn Creek Arts Festival is Saturday, July 15 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. right outside the Fisher Community Center (709 S. Center St.) in Marshalltown. It’s an annual art fair with someone for everyone. There are artist stands, food and beverages, on-stage entertainment, and kids’ crafts and activities.
The art is fantastic! I love walking through the stands and talking to the artists about where they’re from and their unique pieces of art. I really encourage you to come and check it out. Stay for an hour or stay all day! It is really a great day for our community.
This year, Amber Danielson, the Executive Director of the Marshall County Arts & Culture Alliance, sponsor of the festival, has graciously offered us $75 Festival Dollars to give away to a lucky Marshalltown mom. These festival dollars can be used the day of the festival and can be spent at an artist booth. This is truly an amazing prize!! To enter the giveaway, all you have to do is take a short survey.

A Q&A with Amber Danielson, Executive Director of Marshall County Arts & Culture Alliance, sponsor of the Linn Creek Arts Festival
What is the Linn Creek Arts Festival? How did it get started?
Among the many art festivals that take place throughout the Midwest in summer, the annual Linn Creek Arts Festival in Marshalltown stands out due to its location, quality, and venue. It’s an artful experience through and through! An annual art fair has been held almost every year by the Central Iowa Art Association since 1955. In 2009, the Association decided it could no longer sponsor the fair on its own. The Arts & Culture Alliance volunteered to be the sponsoring organization. The Alliance is happy to maintain the tradition of this excellent event in Marshalltown!
The one-day event takes place Saturday, July 15th, 10 am to 5 pm, on the lush grounds of Fisher Community Center in Marshalltown. A focal point of the festival grounds is a Christian Peterson sculpture and fountain in a reflecting pond. Trees provide shade for many of the artists’ tent sites, and strolling musicians from guitarists to a harpist add to the ambiance. The Linn Creek Art Festival is easily a day-long experience. Between meeting the artists, visitors can relax in the picnic tent, enjoy a variety of foods, visit the beverage garden, and be entertained by on-stage entertainers. An interesting sojourn through Arts Alliance booths will give everyone a chance to win one of several $75 ‘Festival Dollars’, and a $5 raffle ticket might lead to winning an original piece of art.
It seems to be one of the premiere events in Marshalltown. Why do you think the arts are so important in our town?
The Alliance’s mission is connects our communities to arts and culture by supporting, promoting and enriching existing opportunities, and by seeking new possibilities. We believe a community enriched in arts and culture will attract, retain and engage our community members. It is our vision to see a future in which arts and culture thrive and our communities flourish. The Arts aren’t limited to fancy sculpture parks and pristine art galleries; the Arts are a collaboration of many things from local theater groups, school music classes, art classes, tourism and historic sites, concerts, business signage, and much more! Communities that have a strong arts presence are stronger and contribute more to their local economy.
What ages would enjoy the festival? Is the event baby/stroller friendly?
The festival is for all ages and is 100% family friendly! We have amazing kids activities including, spin art, sand art, face painting, balloon artist, coloring contest, henna paint artist, and paint a car! The best part – all kids activities are FREE!!!
Who are some of the artists or what are some of the exhibits that will be there this year?
Talented artists from across Iowa and 7 other states will be selling a wide variety of work at the 2017 Linn Creek Arts Festival on Saturday, July 15th. In addition to the 58 artists who were juried into the festival, a group of high school and college-age artists will be featured in a new “Emerging Artists” area. Juried artists applied to the Linn Creek Arts Festival during January and February via an internet-based forum, and in March, a jury including art educators and collectors selected artists to invite. In addition to creativity and quality, jurors sought a balanced representation of ceramics, jewelry, glass, wood, metal, fiber, mixed media, painting, photography, and more. Festival attendees will find many favorite artists from past festivals and will be able to welcome nearly 20 artists who are new to our event. Please follow us on Facebook and Instagram https://www.facebook.com/LinnCreekArtsFestival/ to see sneak previews of our artists work! In addition to 50+ artists and multiple entertainers, The July 15th Linn Creek Arts Festival is continuing a popular opportunity for young people to connect with art! The Junior Art Lovers’ Gallery will be exhibition with items for sale that children age four though twelve will be able to purchase. This “NO PARENTS ALLOWED” event will give children an opportunity to browse and select an item that peaks their interest. Ushered by a festival volunteer, children will be able to look at the art objects and make a cash purchase. All for sale items will be donated by participating festival artists, and will be priced up to $10. As there will be a limited number of items, sales are limited to one item per child. The young buyers will receive a card with the artist’s biography and directions to the artist’s booth.
This is a free event, no admission, and all kids activities are free. Please come join us on Saturday July 15th from 10am to 5pm on the Fisher Community Grounds (709 S Center St) – this is a day you won’t want to miss!
