We’ve gone on and on and on about the great programs the Marshalltown Public Library has for our youth. They are just about to start up fall sessions of Toddlers & 2s and Storytime. See more information about these programs below and read our past post about Library Programs for Littles.
Toddlers & 2s
The Marshalltown Public Library is now registering for the fall session of Toddlers & 2s, which will take place from Tuesday, September 12 through October 24. Toddlers & 2s is free for babies through 36 months and a parent/caregiver. Older siblings are welcome to attend with their families.
Arrival time is anytime between 9:30-9:45 to the blue activity room, with the “Hello Everybody” welcoming song and “just right” story for little ones starting at 9:45, followed by informal playtime and interactions with new friends.
Pre-registration is required by calling the library’s youth desk at 641-754-5738, ext. 3 or email Joa at firstname.lastname@example.org. Please include your name, as well as your child’s name and age.
The fall session of story-time has started at the Marshalltown Public Library. Storytime takes place in the blue activity room at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesdays and features stories, songs, and fingerplays on a theme. Storytime is geared toward children 3-5 years old, but is open to any child, with a caregiver, who would enjoy an interactive story experience.
Caregivers are welcome to “try out” storytime, staying as long as the child is successful in the environment—and welcome to leave a little early as it is very normal for the transition to this new experience to take a few tries.
Storytime is followed by free time with developmentally appropriate toys which encourage imaginative play, including a large dollhouse, kitchen set, giant blocks, Legos, and more.
Practicing “sitting and listening” skills and particpating in interactive group learning, as well as interacting with other children, all help children to develop important “school readiness” skills that will help them have a positive kindergarten experience later on.
No pre-registration is required for families or groups of fewer than 8 children. Larger groups or daycares, please call the library to check for space. Preschools and daycare centers can also ask about our preschool outreach storytime at your own location.
Upcoming themes for Wednesday storytime are as follows:
August 30: Crazy Colors
September 6: I Love My Family
September 13: Be My Friend
September 20: “Eye” See You! (including an opportunity for free KidSight Vision Screening by Lions)
September 27: Animal Friends
